What are Meta Tags?
Meta tags are lines of text written in the hidden HTML (hypertext markup language) “source code” page of each visible web page. The visible pages are seen by your visitors, while source code pages are scanned by the various search engines.
Why are meta tags important?
Meta tags are scanned or "spidered" by many search engines to index your web page and to list the page in the search results when someone conducts a search for information on a particular topic.
How do meta tags work?
Meta tags are written between the <Head>
(beginning of header) and </head>
(end of header) tags on the HTML source code page. Although there are several meta tag types, this discussion will focus on the most important tags: title, description, and keywords. You can view the source code of this page by going to “View” on your menu bar, and then clicking on "Page Source” or “Source Code”.
